Meet The Founder
"What Makes Me Uniquely Qualified To Serve Your Family?"
Growing up in a farming family taught me two things above all else: the value of hard work and the importance of protecting family– no matter what. Those lessons have guided me throughout my career and inspire the way we serve our clients today.
After graduating from Oklahoma State University, I spent several years building a successful family business with my father. This hands-on experience gave me insight into the complexities and emotions involved in planning for your family's future. Motivated by a desire to help others secure peace of mind, I earned my law degree with honors from the University of Texas School of Law.
Estate planning became deeply personal when my first child was born. Creating our family's estate plan brought me tremendous relief and confidence, knowing my loved ones were secure. I founded Robbins Estate Law to provide that same peace of mind and security to other families.
As the founder of one of Texas's leading estate planning firms, I’ve helped thousands of families navigate estate planning, probate, and estate tax matters. Our firm prides itself on compassionate guidance, transparent pricing, and personalized support at every step.
What is the federal estate tax exemption limit for 2026?
For 2026, the federal estate tax exemption is expected to "sunset" or significantly decrease from previous years’ highs (adjusting back toward the $7 million range per individual, indexed for inflation), barring new legislation. This creates a critical window for Austin families to utilize GRATs (Grantor Retained Annuity Trusts) or SLATs (Spousal Lifetime Access Trusts) to lock in higher gift limits before they expire.
How does a Revocable Living Trust avoid Travis County probate?
While Independent Administration in Texas is relatively efficient, a Revocable Living Trust allows your assets to pass to heirs without the need for any court intervention in the Travis County Probate Courts. This keeps your family's private financial matters out of public records and ensures immediate access to funds upon your passing.
Can an Austin business owner shield real estate using a Series LLC?
Yes. For Austin real estate investors, the Texas Series LLC is a premier asset protection tool. It allows you to compartmentalize liability for multiple properties under one "parent" entity. This ensures that a lawsuit involving one property does not jeopardize the equity of your entire portfolio or your personal savings.
What is a "Step-Up in Basis" and why is it vital for Texas heirs?
A Step-up in Basis allows the value of an inherited asset to be reset to its fair market value at the time of the owner's death. In high-growth markets like Austin, this can save heirs hundreds of thousands of dollars in capital gains taxes when they eventually sell inherited property or stocks.
How does the "Texas Advantage" protect my primary residence?
Texas provides some of the strongest Homestead Protections in the country under the Texas Property Code. Generally, creditors cannot force the sale of your primary Austin residence to satisfy a judgment, which serves as a foundational layer of any robust asset protection strategy.
Do I need a Spousal Lifetime Access Trust (SLAT) in 2026?
A SLAT is an irrevocable trust where one spouse creates a gift for the benefit of the other, effectively removing those assets from their taxable estate while maintaining indirect access to the income. This is a "Sophisticated Strategy" we often recommend to Austin families nearing the 2026 federal tax exemption thresholds.
