How Can We Help You?

High-net-worth households in River Oaks face planning questions that go well beyond a simple will. Deed restrictions enforced by the River Oaks Property Owners, Inc. add layers to property transfers. Federal estate-tax exposure is a real concern when a single Tall Timbers home can exceed the current exemption threshold. A revocable living trust keeps your estate off the public probate record. And if you own rental properties, asset-protection structures deserve a seat at the planning table. We handle all of it under one roof, in person.

Asset Protection

River Oaks property investors face real liability exposure every time a tenant or contractor sets foot on a rental. A Series LLC lets you wall off individual properties from one another so that a claim against one asset cannot reach the others. For clients with substantial equity, a Domestic Asset Protection Trust can add another defensive layer. We design these structures to align with your broader estate plan, not as standalone products, and our transparent flat fees cover the full design and drafting process.

Wills & Trusts

A well-drafted will is the foundation, but River Oaks families often benefit most from a revocable living trust that keeps the River Oaks Boulevard home and investment accounts out of the public probate record entirely. We draft both documents as a coordinated package, pour-over wills included, and we walk you through funding the trust so that property in Homewoods or Country Club Estates actually transfers the way you intend.

Inheritance & Estate Tax

A River Oaks estate can clear the federal exemption threshold on the strength of one property alone. Spousal Lifetime Access Trusts, Grantor Retained Annuity Trusts, and Irrevocable Life Insurance Trusts each shift value out of your taxable estate in different ways. We match the right tool to your family's balance sheet, liquidity needs, and long-term goals, and we explain the trade-offs in plain language before any document is drafted.

Special Needs Planning

Families in River Oaks and across the Inner Loop who have a child or sibling with a disability need a plan that preserves government benefit eligibility while still providing genuine quality of life. A carefully drafted Special Needs Trust, coordinated with your revocable living trust, accomplishes both goals. We also advise on ABLE accounts and letter-of-intent documents that give future trustees the guidance they need to serve your loved one well.

Guardianship

When a family member loses capacity, Texas guardianship proceedings can move slowly and become expensive. Proper planning with durable powers of attorney and a funded revocable trust can often make formal guardianship unnecessary. When a court proceeding is unavoidable, we guide River Oaks families through Harris County Probate Court with clear expectations and, again, transparent flat fees so the process holds no financial surprises.

Business Succession

Many River Oaks families hold interests in closely held businesses alongside their real estate. A family limited partnership or an intentionally defective grantor trust can transfer business value to the next generation at a discount while keeping the founder in control during the transition. We coordinate business succession documents with your existing estate plan to ensure the two strategies reinforce each other rather than create conflicts.

The Robbins Difference

Not Your Typical Law Firm.

Every River Oaks family deserves a plan built around their actual assets and goals, not a template pulled off a shelf. Whether you are creating your first estate plan or updating an existing one, our strategy session gives your family a clear path forward.

Courtroom Tested

Unlike forms-only services, we actively litigate in Harris County probate and civil courts. We know how legal documents are challenged in a courtroom setting, so we draft your estate plan specifically to withstand scrutiny and succeed.

Transparent Flat Fees

No surprise bills. We believe in value-based pricing, providing you with a clear, upfront investment for your estate plan so you can focus on your family’s future rather than billable hours.

Meet The Founder

Kyle Robbins, Esq.

"What Makes Me Uniquely Qualified To Serve Your Family?"

Growing up in a farming family taught me two things above all else: the value of hard work and the importance of protecting family– no matter what. Those lessons have guided me throughout my career and inspire the way we serve our clients today.

After graduating from Oklahoma State University, I spent several years building a successful family business with my father. This hands-on experience gave me insight into the complexities and emotions involved in planning for your family's future. Motivated by a desire to help others secure peace of mind, I earned my law degree with honors from the University of Texas School of Law.

Estate planning became deeply personal when my first child was born. Creating our family's estate plan brought me tremendous relief and confidence, knowing my loved ones were secure. I founded Robbins Estate Law to provide that same peace of mind and security to other families.

As the founder of one of Texas's leading estate planning firms, I’ve helped thousands of families navigate estate planning, probate, and estate tax matters. Our firm prides itself on compassionate guidance, transparent pricing, and personalized support at every step.

Our Bellaire office is about four miles from River Oaks, close enough for an in-person strategy session on a signature estate whenever you need one. River Oaks families often carry real complexity - large deed-restricted homes, closely held businesses, and generational wealth - that calls for the advanced side of our practice, and it is a focus of the firm: we handle high-net-worth estate planning for families throughout the Inner Loop. For a fuller picture, our guide on who can help with high-net-worth estate planning in Houston walks through the options.

Common Questions (FAQ)

Naming your estate as beneficiary forces those assets through probate, which means a River Oaks home or investment portfolio that could have transferred privately now becomes part of the public court record. It also eliminates the stretch options available to individual beneficiaries on retirement accounts and can trigger faster distribution timelines. Naming a properly drafted trust or specific individuals is almost always the better approach, and we review every beneficiary designation as part of our planning process.

A Revocable Living Trust allows your assets to pass directly to beneficiaries upon your death without court intervention. By retitling assets into the trust, they are no longer part of your "probate estate," sparing your family the public and often lengthy Harris County probate process.

Yes. For Houston real estate investors or entrepreneurs, a Texas Series LLC allows you to partition liability. By holding different properties in separate "series," a lawsuit against one asset (such as a rental property) typically does not jeopardize your other holdings or personal wealth.

A "Step-Up in Basis" adjusts the value of an inherited asset to its fair market value at the time of the owner's death. For Texas heirs, this can virtually eliminate capital gains taxes on highly appreciated assets, such as a long-held family home or a business, when they are eventually sold.

Texas offers some of the most robust homestead protections in the country. Under the "Texas Advantage," your primary residence in Houston is generally shielded from most judgment creditors, ensuring your family's home remains secure regardless of external financial liabilities.

With federal tax exemptions scheduled to drop in 2026, a SLAT is a powerful tool for high-net-worth couples. It allows one spouse to transfer assets into an irrevocable trust for the other’s benefit, removing those assets (and their future growth) from the taxable estate while maintaining indirect access to the funds.

Robbins Estate Law has guided thousands of families and individuals across Texas through estate planning and probate matters. We do not publish neighborhood-specific case counts, but River Oaks and the broader Inner Loop represent a significant share of our Houston practice. Clients in Shadyside, Tall Timbers, and Country Club Estates have trusted us with complex high-net-worth planning, and our transparent flat-fee model is a consistent reason they choose us over large hourly-billing firms.

Yes. Our Houston-area office is at 6575 W Loop S, Suite 500, in Bellaire, approximately four miles from River Oaks. We offer in-person strategy sessions, document signings, and witness appearances when required by court rules. Harris County Probate Court No. 4 requires the testifying witness in an uncontested Zoom prove-up to be physically present in the attorney's office, a rule in place since September 2023. Our nearby Bellaire location makes that requirement easy to satisfy. Virtual meetings are also available for routine consultations.
